Anti-Cigarette Litter Campaign
The Community Support team of Louth County Council and Dundalk Tidy Towns launched the vote with your butt campaign on 17th January 2024 to raise awareness and encourage proper disposal of cigarette butts in Co Louth, as the dreaded butts are contributing to over two-thirds of all litter in Louth— a statistic well above the national average.
The essence of the campaign is succinctly encapsulated in three key points:
-
Cigarette butts are plastic.
-
Cigarette butts are litter.
-
Cigarette butts belong in the bin, not on the street.
Specially designed cigarette ballot bins were strategically placed in areas heavily affected by cigarette litter in town. Volunteers, attired in cigarette costumes and carrying placards with the campaign message, visited businesses in both towns. A huge thanks to all of the local businesses who are now displaying anti-littering stickers in their windows!
